Katy Texas, first known as Cane Island at the intersection of Harris, Waller, and Fort Bend counties.  Before 1890 there was train service through Katy, but no station was located
there at that time.  The depot was finished in 1898, later the depot was then sold to the city of Katy in 1977.

Rice farming was introduced in 1901, and rice replaced cotton, peanuts, and corn.  In 1904 Katy had a reported population of 119. The discovery well of the Katy gas field was
drilled in 1934.  From 1925 to 1942 it was reported at 400. It rose to 800 in 1943. The city of Katy was incorporated in 1945, after the 1940s the town continued to grow steadily. It
reached a high of 9,866 inhabitants in 1988; by 2000 the population had increased to 11,775.  One of the largest residential settlements in the Katy area is the Cinco Ranch
sub-division with additional sub-divisions continuing to build and move westward.
